No more wondering what your child is learning everyday at Preschool or Daycare! At Unique Education Academy we are offering cutting edge curriculum in early learning to create a dynamic multi-sensory approach to learning that teaches: pre-k reading, writing, literacy, science, math and emotional intelligence and self-regulation. Here's a breakdown of the curriculum we have to offer:
Singapore Math helps students develop competence and confidence in mathematics using the following approach: -concrete-pictorial-abstract development that builds on existing knowledge of the world. -group discussion/expansive thinking. -sequencing and scaffold learning from pre-k through elementary. -hands on multi-sensory approach which encourages group learning through exploration and play. -builds problem solving skills through repetition and variation.
Handwriting Without Tears® curriculum which draws from years of innovation and research to provide developmentally appropriate, multi- sensory strategies for early writing. This program follows addresses all styles of learning. What to expect: -multi-sensory approach: singing, movement, games, touch, visuals, etc. -cross-curricular connections with math, science, social studies & ELA. -unique letter order and style. -assessments and tailored instructional plans.
Social Thinking & The Zones of Regulation to build mindfulness and social skills: We Thinkers! series helps children build foundational social competencies and essential life skills through stories, lessons, and play activities. The teachings help kids better understand themselves and others, develop self-awareness, perspective taking, social problem solving, and supports students’ social-emotional learning, relationship building, classroom learning, and academic performance. Zones of Regulation® teaches students strategies for emotional and sensory self-management. Rooted in cognitive behavioural therapy, The Zones approach uses four colours to help students identify how they are feeling in the moment given their emotions and level of alertness as well as guide them to strategies to support regulation.
Our approach to develop a well-rounded individual is multi-faceted. Therefore we are invested in teaching our young students mindful awareness, as a life time skill and to help with cognitive and academic growth. Mindfulness helps children improve their ability to get along with other children, be more emphatic, more optimistic and enhance self-concept, self-regulation and self management. Children will learn to have better impulse control and less reactivity: how to shift perspective to come up with a less emotional—and more productive—reaction. Also, mindfulness education teaches children to reduce stress, focus better on tasks, follow through and prioritize. Strategies we engage for teaching mindfulness: “mind break” used in stressful situations, or simply when transitioning from one activity to the next: students take a deep breath and calm themselves, quiet their minds, be present, peaceful and really focus on the positive. Other lessons include practising mindful awareness during everyday activities, like walking and eating, to teach kids to truly be in that moment, and how to help them remember a happy time or appreciate a happy experience.
All of these programs include Family Letters/At Home Activities to help you support your child's learning at home.
